Summer All-Star Coach - Application / Notification of Interest
Summer All Star Head Coaches Selection Process
Prospective head coaches must file an application of interest to the KYBSL board. The application will be available for download on the KYBSL website. Exact deadline date will be determined on a year to year basis, but will not be later than June 1. Coaches will be notified by a KYBSL email blast at beginning of spring season and prior to June 1 of that season. Coaches can be nominated by a parent or fellow coach, but, must agree to nomination by June 1.
Each coach must apply each year, regardless of whether or not they coached a summer team the year prior.
A coach may or may not be asked to sit before the board for an interview process.
A prospective head coach cannot participate in the evaluation process of an all star tryout, but can facilitate the tryout itself.
Head coaches will be selected and ranked by the board in order of preference. Ranking will be determined by:
Head coaching experience at the youth level
Recommendations from other coaches or board members
Overall baseball knowledge and ability to convey this knowledge at the youth level.
Coaching evaluations/surveys can be used to assist in this process.
A prospective head coach cannot be present in the selection meeting room until his son has been selected in the evaluation process. Only then, can this Head coach participate in the final decision making for this team.
The Head coach can select his own assistant coaches with or without input from the
In the event that a team is selected without a son of a prospective coach making the team, the highest rated player in that age group can be added as an extra (13th) and thus, his Father would be Head coach.

New Drying agent for fields and procedures for wet surfaces
KYBSL has invested in a new system of making fields playable when there is standing water.
The link below is a demonstration of how to manage the process. It is a bit labor-intensive but well worth it.
A couple of important points:
LESS IS MORE! you do not need to use a lot of this dryingagent to get great results! Never use more than 1&1/2 cups of the product on a wet surface. Not only does it absorb moisture, it also retains it so using too much could result in a negative net-result.
This product does NOT REMOVE STANDING WATER, as a matter of fact, no product can do that. Standing water must be removed by using the drying pads that will be in the shed. These pads are re-usable and should last us many seasons, do not toss them!
There is no one single action that can have more of a positive impact on our players than improving the quality and knowledge of our managers and coaches. It is a fact that managers and coaches are the ones who spend the most time interacting with our participants and the ones who can make a child’s experience in youth sports fun and memorable. Therefore, it is very important for youth coaches to be properly trained to focus more on the child’s baseball and softball experience and less on winning games.
With this in mind, the Babe Ruth League/Ripken Baseball Coaching Certification Program was developed. As of July 31, 2008, all baseball and softball coaches must complete coaching education before they will be permitted to coach a team.
